JAZZ STUFF |
Hot Air on CBC It's a bit of a national passtime in Canada to bash the CBC. But even ardent bashers have to admit the network has a winner in Hot Air. The Vancouver-originated radio show about jazz, with an emphasis on B.C. musicians has been on the air since 1947 - an incredible 61 years! With its mix of recorded and live music, it's always entertaining and informative. Hot Air has added to the number of "essential jazz recording" lists with their own "Hit List. Not surprisingly - but appropriately - it includes a number of albums by B.C. musicians including Fraser McPherson, Campbell Ryga and Hugh Fraser. And more Canadians than you'll find on most lists including Lenny Breau, Oliver Jones and Rob McConnel and the Boss Brass. With the likes of Jimmie Rowles, Shirley Horne and Pat Metheny, it's a well thought-out list. Check it out at http://www.cbc.ca/hotair/. Hot Air can be heard every Saturday at 5:05 on CBC. |
