Calling all members (and others) - Annual General Meeting Mark your calendars for Thursday May 21 when our Annual General Meeting will be held at the Courtenay Elks Hall, at 6:30 p.m. Free appetizers will be served, prior to the 7:30 p.m. performance by Indigo. This is your opportunity to meet others with a shared appreciation of jazz, have your say, and get involved in the Society's activities. |

From Diane's web site: "Diane received her musical education at the Banff School of Fine Arts, the Humber School of Creative and Performing Arts in Toronto, and at Cleo Laine and John Dankworth’s Wavendon Music Program in England. She has performed on six continents and has appeared with a variety of entertainers including Bob Hope, Les Brown, Tennessee Ernie Ford, and Jim Walker. "Diane was the pianist for Grammy nominated Michael Bublé for two years. Diane has also toured throughout the United States principally as keyboardist and vocalist for the Mac Frampton and the Hollywood Hills Orchestra. "Now based in Vancouver, Diane performs with R&B singer Joani Bye and with smooth jazz recording artist Gabriel Mark Hasselbach. She is most frequently seen playing keyboards and singing with Canada’s “King of Swing” Dal Richards and his Orchestra. Diane is featured on Richards’ 2005 CD The Swinging Years and has recently recorded three new songs for Dal's new CD release Dal Richards and Friends which also features vocalists Bria Skonberg, Jennifer Hayes, Jamie Croil, and blues great Jim Byrnes." |

Our drummer's name is John Deere Enough of this electronic drummer-in-a-box stuff. These guys have a serious time keeper replacement . . . Grammys, Junos, now the NJA Here's a jazz award that you can be part of. The Canadian National Jazz Awards are accepting public votes for their upcoming 8th annual ceremony, May 14. Vancouver Island is again well represented in the nomimations, including Jodi Proznik (bass), Phil Dwyer (sax, instrumentlast, arranger and musician of the year!), Joe Coughlin (vocalist), and Victoria resident and UVic prof Ian McDougall (big band). You can vote on the NJA web site.
