Your Brain on Jazz Ever wondered what a musician on stage is thinking about when they're blowing a great solo? Maybe not much. According to a a study conducted by scientists funded by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (interesting irony in itself!): "...when jazz musicians are engaged in the highly creative and spontaneous activity known as improvisation, a large region of the brain involved in monitoring one’s performance is shut down...".
