Sharon Minemoto Quartet featuring Laura CremaSunday, October 19 Since the age of sixteen, Vancouver-based jazz pianist and composer Sharon Minemoto has been performing to audiences around the world. Her 1997 album “Side A” spent eight weeks at the top of the jazz and blues charts. In the decade since that stunning debut she has gone from strength to strength, arranging and performing and teaching jazz internationally.
The Georgia Straight Jazz Society brings the Sharon Minemoto Quartet to the Comox Valley for one performance on Sunday, October 19th. Fans of vocal jazz will be thrilled to hear that Vancouver singer Laura Crema is featured. Crema’s voice has been described as “a lush, unique instrument” with low notes that “glow like coals”. Ken Lister on bass and Paul Townsend on drums complete the quartet. Veteran jazz bassist Lister has recorded with the Hugh Fraser Quintet and the Vancouver Ensemble of Jazz Improvisation (VEJI), and performed with many other jazz greats including Pat Coleman, Kenny Wheeler, Don Thompson, Joshua Redman and Herb Ellis. Drummer Paul Townsend fronts his own quintet in addition to playing regularly with Minemoto, and has opened for Joe Lovano, Oscar Peterson and Clark Terry. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CYMC FundraiserSaturday October 25 Strathcona Symphony Orchesta ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
