Who is Playing Jazz on Vancouver Island?

Want to know who's playing jazz where on Vancouver Island? Check out the great schedule on Island Jazz, Rick Gibbs' blog covering jazz on the Island. If you have a RSS reader, you can subscribe to the calendar. Thanks, Rick!

Don't throw out those old jazz LPs!

Have a mint condition copy of Coltrane's Blue Train album in the attic? It could be worth $1200. How about Bill Evan's Waltz for Debby? That could fetch about $350, if it's in excellent condition. The Jazz Collector has an interesting price list for jazz LPs. (My best is a Kenny Burrell album listed at $181. Not bad for an $8 purchase. Ed.)

SOCIETY  NEWS

New Executive

We're launching our 4th season with some new (though familiar) faces on the GSJS Board. At the 2009 Annual General Meeting, Malcolm Holt was elected President and Jackie Holt elected Treasurer. Many of you will know Malcolm and Jackie from their involvement at the Thursday Jazz Club last season, Malcom appearing frequently as emcee and Jackie handling ticket sales and memberships. They join Dale Graham, Rob Peterson and Rick Husband on the board, all looking forward to an exciting year.

Many thanks to Barbara Foremand and Nina LeBlanc, past president and treasurer, for their incredible work last year. The Society made terrific advances through their efforts and dedication. And of course great thanks to Dave and Charlotte Harvey. We wish them good fortune and good music during their new adventure!
