After the Christmas break Georgia, Straight Jazz Society is thrilled to kick off 2017 with a terrific band that is composed of some of the Comox Valley's finest musicians. Music lovers can look forward to some great jazz standards with a Hawaiian flavour, as Anela Kahiamoe takes the stage at 7:30 pm this Thursday at The Avalanche Bar and Grill.

Anela is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter and a 30-year veteran of the Honolulu music scene who, for the past 8 years has resided in the Comox Valley where he's firmly entrenched himself into the local music scene. A lifelong entertainer since the age of 17, Anela will draw you in with his warm and engaging stage presence complimented by his masterful skills on vocals, ukulele and guitar.

John Hyde, bass, is a true professional musician in every respect. He is an in demand/first call session player and freelance jazz and classical player who has demonstrated his high calibre skills on stage countless times in the valley, with numerous collaborations.

On keyboard is jazz specialist, Eirah Unger, a new face on our local jazz scene. An expert in a variety of genres, this lifetime musician has collaborated with elite artists his entire career.

On drums is Robert Carter, a new addition to our scene who hails from Alberta, now residing in the Comox Valley. Robert has performed at venues all over North America, including recent collaborations with country artist Jess Lee.

On violin is the ever-popular Cumberland resident Blaine Dunaway, a fine violinist who has performed throughout North America. Blaine appears regularly at venues throughout the Valley. The blending of that sweet violin sound will uniquely complement the band.

Be prepared for an totally enjoyable evening of music and entertainment.
