Harvey Paris Quintet

One of the exciting aspects of living in a hotbed of young musical talent is to see how our top-flight performers can move beyond the local scene to pursue their career in the wider world of jazz. This is one of those weeks: when we're able to undertake a measure of how far one of our finest young jazz artists, Harvey Paris, has progressed since leaving the Valley.

As a contemporary jazz musician/vocalist Paris is thrilled to announce that he is introducing his newest collaboration, with 35-time award winning tenor saxophonist and film composer Eli Bennett. Eli and Harvey first met in the Yamaha "All Stars Big Band" when they performed under the direction of Hugh Fraser to a sold-out show at the Chan Centre in 2007.

Since then both artists have studied music at university, leading their own groups within in the jazz tradition, as well as in funk, r&b, pop, reggae and ska.

The current group features a blend of contemporary jazz with Latin jazz/neo soul grooves. Importantly, it features some of Vancouver's finest musicians: Phil Hamlein (piano) Mike Clement (guitar) Andrew Fraser (bass) and Jesse McNeil (drums).

Harvey has just released his new EP "I'll Explain In Person", which highlights the band's ability to improvise in a crossover genre. Kickstart your New Year groove with this exciting new EP from the Harvey Paris Quintet, which will be available on the night of the show.

Please browse the Calendar page of the website to see the full line-up of acts between now and the end of May to discover the amazing range of performances you can experience without leaving the Comox Valley.
