Dan Craven Quartet - on the Edge

The Edgewater Pub in concert with the Georgia Straight Jazz Society presents the Dan Craven Quartet on November 30th and December 1st 2007 at the newly renovated Edgewater Pub in Comox.

Woodwind player and saxophone specialist, Dan Craven teaches music at Qualicum Secondary School, and brings the benefit of extensive performance experience to his students. He has had the honour of sharing the stage with Phil Dwyer, Don Thompson, John McDermott, P.J. Perry, Campbell Ryga, Ken Lister, Jodi Proznick, Mike Herriott, Arnie Chycoski, Miranda Sage, Armi Grano and many others.

This year Craven was selected to join Phil Dwyer's 2007 Sax Summit, which first launched in 2002 with the release of Sax Summit on CBC Records, and has become a repertory vehicle for many of the country’s top saxophone talents.

Craven is currently a member of Oceanside's Arrowsmith Big Band. He has appeared frequently with Courtney's own Jazz Noir, the Georgia Straight Big Band, and at the Elks’ Jazz Club in various ensembles. Craven blows away audiences with superlative tenor playing that is always intelligent, technically brilliant and completely entertaining.

Joining Craven on piano is composer, musician and producer Bill Perison. Perison’s playing ranges through vast repertoires and genres and he has performed in Canada and the USA, been featured on CBC Radio, composed for large and small jazz ensembles, choral groups, and television and has music published in the Choral Music Experience series by Boosey & Hawkes.

On Friday night the quartet consists of Blue Monk back line players Greg Hill on drums and Grahame Edwards on stand-up bass, while Perison will comp and solo on piano. On Saturday an extra dimension will be added with the smooth phrasing of local guitar maestro Doug Anderson.

These are two performances that all music lovers and jazz enthusiasts will not want to miss so come on down to the Edge for great music.
