The Mix

The Georgia Straight Jazz Society is proud to host “The Mix” on Sunday May 27th, 2007 at the Elks’ Home on 6th Street. This highly anticipated male voice ensemble performance will be well received by vocalists, choir members and music enthusiasts through-out the Valley.

The Mix - a capella jazz at its best

After having directed many different jazz groups at high school, college, and semi-professional level Peter Taylor wanted to form a group that would truly be professional in every aspect. A group that would be self-sufficient on stage. A group requiring no conductor and a group that could perform a variety of styles and would be receptive to original arrangements and compositions. In the summer of 2004 this became a possibility.  Already having the outstanding talents of Paul Cummings, Richard Olfert, and Gary Vanderhoeven in Powell River, “The Mix” became a reality with the arrival of Roy Carson to our community.

While “The Mix” has only been in existence a short while they are receiving accolades. They have been guest artists at The Pender Harbour Jazz Festival, Jazz on the Rocks, Vocal Summit XII and many other regional and local events. They were honored to share the stage and perform with Dee Daniels last year and were equally honored to share the stage with “Vocal Jazz I” from Central Washington University under the direction of Vijay Singh.

Opening for “The Mix” is special guest 16 Strings featuring the beautiful voices of Dale Graham and Charlotte Harvey accompanied by the superlative guitar work of Rick Husband and Doug Anderson. The performance will entertain the audience with swingers, ballads, blues and Latin standards at 7:30.

The tickets are available at Bop City for $12 for GSJS members and $15 for general. For further information phone Dave at 897-0985. Tickets can also be purchased at the Thursday Night Jazz Club, May 24th at the Elks'.
