ULTRAVIOLET: Groove-Based, Genre-Defying, and Gloriously Unpigeonholeable

Formed in the Comox Valley on the unceded traditional territory of the Kómoks First Nation, Ultraviolet is a groove-driven, mostly instrumental trio that bends jazz, post-rock, ambient soundscapes and experimental textures into something entirely their own.

Described as “equal parts mysterious, groovy and spacey,” Ultraviolet creates immersive performances that are never replicated twice. Their collective commitment to spontaneous composition results in ever-evolving musical conversations — unpredictable, exploratory, and deeply alive.

At the centre of the project are three accomplished musicians whose paths have circled the globe:

  • Oscar Robles Diaz (Mexico City) – guitars, including the innovative U10 Touch Guitar
  • Brittany Christina Bowman (Comox Valley) – bass & vocals
  • Beau Stocker (Toronto) – drums

Together, their touring experience spans Latin America, Asia, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Canada — global influences that ripple through their sound.

Ultraviolet’s toolkit is anything but ordinary.

Acoustic drums — sometimes played with driftwood sticks sourced from Vancouver Island beaches — intertwine with electric and semi-acoustic bass, electric guitars, and the highly innovative U10 Touch Guitar, designed for expressive touch-style playing. Add a constellation of effects pedals, Ebow, singing bowl, clay sculpting needles, and the occasional haunting vocal line, and you have a layered, textural soundscape that feels both grounded and otherworldly.

Ultraviolet has performed at festivals all BC as well as a concert series presented by the Georgia Straight Jazz Society, Comox Valley Arts Council, Highway 10 Concerts, Arts Revelstoke, and many other venues throughout British Columbia.

“Ultraviolet is equal parts mysterious, groovy and spacey. They will take you on an unpredictable sonic journey, equally appealing to your head and feet. This trio is refreshingly creative.”
— Kip Luce, Bop City Records

Ultraviolet is not easily categorized — and that’s precisely the point.

It’s music that grooves, drifts, pulses and surprises.
It’s texture and tension.
It’s driftwood and circuitry.
It’s exploration without borders.

And every performance is a journey.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite: $25 for members, $30 non-members, or at the door for $30 members, $35 non-members and $10 for students
