The Georgia Straight Jazz Society

At the Avalanche Bar & Grill 275 8th Street, Courtenay

Another exciting concert awaits jazz aficionados at The Avalanche Bar this Thursday when Toronto-based drummer and composer Ethen Ardelli leads his ensemble for a two-hour concert, beginning at 7:30 pm. If you appreciate cool, west coast-style classy relaxing jazz, this is the concert for you!

Originally from Sydney, Nova Scotia, Ethan graduated from the University of Toronto in 2006, and has since been one of the most in demand jazz artists in Canada. Ethan has had the pleasure of working with acclaimed international artists Dewey Redman, Mark Turner, Mark Feldman, Jeremy Pelt, George Mraz, Mulgrew Miller and Greg Osby.

Our concert is the westernmost of 13 venues in Nathan's cross-Canada tour, and we're proud to be on the national circuit. This is just one more measure of the calibre of jazz that the Society is able to offer at reasonable prices; fulfilling

Ethan won the 2006 Grand Prix de Jazz at the Montreal International Jazz Festival as part of the David Virelles Quintet and has played on two Juno award winning albums, Jane Bunnett's Radio Guantanamo and Mike Downes' Ripple Effect.

Since 2014, Ethan has been leading his own ensemble showcasing his original compositions. The quartet features saxophonist Luis Deniz, pianist Chris Donnelly and bassist Devon Henderson. Their debut album entitled The Island of Form was released on November 2.

In response to many inquiries, please note that tickets for Maureen Washington's Christmas Show (December 20th) will go on sale on November 15th.
