Jazz encompasses may genres. As an art form it's about 100 years old, ranging from the early "jass" to today's most abstract electronic music. Georgia Straight Jazz Society attempts to offer a wide range of music styles: much like experiencing different forms of painting in a gallery. There are times when we're told that, "I don't like this or that form of jazz", and all we can do is point out that most people have personal preferences and we can't meet all tastes every time.

Such is not the case with this week's show: Latin jazz!
We are probably asked for Latin music more than any other, and Thursday evening will demonstrate why, when La Familia takes the stage at 7:30 pm.
