Jen Hodge All Stars

Members $10, non-members $12

It's been the better part of a decade since Jen Hodge left town, but we've been fortunate to invite her back to perform at least one concert on her home turf each year. This year we left it very late; Jen's here for the next-to-the-last regular concert this performance year.

Vancouver-based Comox Valley-born bass player, vocalist, bandleader, and arranger Jen Hodge is a versatile musician who these days can be found playing with a wide variety of artists all over the world. When Jen is leading the band, she likes it hot - hard swinging grooves, boisterous New Orleans style horns, cheeky lyrics, intelligent arrangements, plenty of spontaneous fun, and an evident, infectious love for making music. Jen's steadfast bass-playing and consummate professionalism have taken her to stages all over Canada, the USA, China, Spain, France, the UK, Sweden, and the Caribbean. On home turf, she can be found leading a band many a Wednesday night at Guilt & Co, a bar in Vancouver's historic Gastown district, where she has been playing regularly since January 2011.

The Jen Hodge All Stars is led by Jen on bass and vocals; Jonathan Doyle, reeds; Chris Davis, Trumpet, and Josh Roberts, guitar.

Jen's latest album, All's Fair in Love and Jazz jenhodgebass.bandcamp.com, spent 8 weeks in the top 30 North American College & Community Radio jazz charts as one of the highest charting self-released titles, peaked at #2 in the Earshot Canadian jazz charts, and broke the top 100 in the commercial JazzWeek charts. "Careful craftsmanship coupled with joy and a deeply experienced sense of humour. Isn't that what music is supposed to be about?" - C. Michael Bailey, All About Jazz
