The Georgia Straight Jazz Society

Andrew Janusson Quartet

Thursday September 21st 2023

The Georgia Straight Jazz Society (GSJS) kicks off their second show of the 2023-24 season this Thursday, September 21st, with The Andrew Janusson Quartet.

The group features Andrew Janusson on guitar, Dr. Tony Genge on piano, Brock Meades on bass and Kelby MacNayr on drums.

Andrew Janusson is an award winning, up-and-coming jazz guitarist who excels at straight ahead, swinging jazz.

His quartet contains Brock Meades, originally from Edmonton, who recently graduated from UVic with a Master of Music in Performance in classical music on double bass.

Kelby MacNayr performs in Canada and abroad with leading musicians from New York, Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto & Europe. Kelby is also a faculty member of the renowned Jazz Port Townsend Festival under director John Clayton and is on staff at the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival.

Dr. Tony Genge is one of Canada's leading jazz organists and jazz pianists. He is also a respected music educator and a well-known and much-recorded composer of classical music.

The Andrew Janusson Quartet will play a selection of ballads, swing tunes and tin-pan alley standards for your listening pleasure.

The show starts at 7:30p.m. with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $20 ($15 for GSJS Members) and $5 for students.

Please select the Calendar tab to see the scheduled outdoor summer concerts at The Anderton Gardens during July and August, as well as the emerging 2023-24 performances on the new calendar.

The Georgia Straight Jazz Society endeavours to feature fine jazz performances of all genres, in an effort to sustain live music, and further the art. This is your opportunity to listen to live modern jazz music from the leading edge. Don't miss it!
