With a Félix Award-winning album and a mission to make jazz more accessible, Carl Mayotte is redefining the genre for a new audience. Hailed as one of Canada's top young bassists and jazz musicians, winner of the 2021 Radio-Canada Jazz Revelation title, he has taken the scene by storm with his electrifying performances and innovative jazz fusion sound.
A prodigy who began his professional career at just 16, Mayotte earned his master's in jazz performance at McGill University and has already collaborated with legends like Sylvain Luc, Paul Brochu, and Michel Cusson. His latest album, Escale, was crowned Jazz Album of the Year at the 2022 Félix Awards, cementing his status as a rising star.
Beyond the stage, Mayotte is dedicated to jazz education. In 2022, he founded a groundbreaking jazz camp in Kamouraska, uniting musicians of all levels to explore and celebrate the art form. With his virtuosic yet approachable style, Mayotte is on a mission to bring jazz back to the forefront-one groove at a time.
