Triology

String Fever is a dynamic string ensemble that whisks audiences on a musical journey across continents and eras. Their repertoire moves seamlessly from the timeless American Songbook to fiery Gypsy Jazz, soulful Celtic traditions, and the elegance of French classics.

The quartet features four veteran musicians, each bringing a wealth of artistry and experience: Tom Neville. A veteran violinist and in-demand feature performer, Tom is fluent in a wide variety of musical idioms and has an extensive resume that includes film, commercial and album projects. Some career highlights include performing with Danny Kaye and the Peking Pops Orchestra at Expo 86, a command performance for the Duke and Duchess of Kent at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa (with Joelle Rabu) and appearing with James Kellaghan, both on his Juno Award-winning album 'A Recent Future' and in concert.

Tom has recorded his own solo CD, 'Highly Strung,' which is a collection of original and traditional material featuring many of the finest musicians from B.C. and Canada. Previously a member of the Paperboys and Tiller's Folly, he has also performed with prominent Canadian musicians Willie P. Bennett, Paul Pigat, David Sinclair, and Keith Bennett. Other performance credits include appearances at the Edmonton and Vancouver Folk Music Festivals and on Brandon Isaak's new Juno nominated album 'One Step Closer'.

In addition to being one of the leaders of String Fever, Tom can often be seen performing with Joelle Rabu, Ken Lavigne, Nico Rhodes, Rick Scott, Gerry Barnum, and the Hot Club of Mars.

Michael Anderson. Michael is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and String Fever's principal vocalist. He studied music at Wilfrid Laurier University for five years and has been mentored by some of Canada's most recognized musicians, including Adrean Farrugia and Don Ross. Michael has performed at the Orpheum Theatre (Vancouver), the Roy Thompson Hall (Toronto) and several of Canada's top jazz clubs.

Michael casts his net wide, having worked most deeply on acoustic fingerstyle guitar, jazz & classical piano, composition, and singing. He currently teaches at Arbutus Music in Nanaimo.

Alan Medcalf A life-long professional musician, Alan has performed on stage, TV, radio and recordings. Performance credits include country artist Patricia Conroy, Canadian folk icon Valdy, Tex-Mex legend Freddy Fender, drummer John Densmore (Doors) and Juno Award-winning jazz musician Hugh Fraser.

Along the way Al has played at over 100 major festivals, fairs, exhibitions and theatres in Western Canada. He has also performed with quite a variety of tribute acts, covering everything from Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson and Waylon Jennings to CCR, Bonnie Raitt, and the Allman Brothers Band.

Al has sat on many music industry boards and committees and has an extensive background as a production manager, adjudicator, audio engineer and artist manager. He has taught at Arbutus Music for over two decades and is proud that a number of Nanaimo's younger professional musicians are his former students. Al continues to teach and mentor and is currently the Vice President of the Nanaimo Blues Society.

Kosma Busheikin Kosma is a double bassist and guitarist who now makes his home in Vancouver, BC. He is a graduate of the Jazz Performance program at Vancouver Island University and is an in-demand sideman for live performances and recordings.

Some notable people he has studied with include Ken Lister, Lee Ellefson, Pat Coleman, Marc Atkinson, John Lee, Hans Verhoeven and Ben Henriques. In addition to String Fever, Kosma also plays in the John Lee Trio, Graham Villette's 'Organized Crime,' the Tasha Adams Quartet and the NMA big band. He always brings his love of blues and swing to the bandstand.

Together, these artists combine technical mastery with irresistible energy and melodic inventiveness, creating a performance that is as captivating as it is diverse. Formed in the summer of 2023 on Vancouver Island, String Fever has already lit up stages at the Nanaimo International Jazz Festival, Quadwrangle Music's Jazz Series, the Cobble Hill Fair, and a host of private events. Expect a wide spectrum of influences and styles, an experience that will linger after the last note fades.
